What do you do with a rug, a couch, an artist, a handful of musicians, a videographer and a connector? You plan a spontaneous concert on a random boulevard in Victoria, BC, of course. The impetus for this originally came from some of my local work with the Mayor’s Pandora Task Force. This group of caring individuals remains dedicated to helping create a safe, healthy, welcoming and inclusive community for everyone.
We know that taking action to create better public spaces in our cities is crucial and that individuals, or groups can make a visible difference. The City of Victoria Great Neighbourhood Grants have helped many people/groups ensure that this remains a reality. It seemed like a match made in heaven, our team collaborating with our friends at the Greater Victoria Placemaking Network and Herold Engineering to make this project a reality – Sofa Surprise Pandora Video
Creating more and more vibrant public space in our cities must remain a priority. It improves our health and well-being and generates activities that should be barrier-free and accessible for all people to enjoy. Join us for our next Sofa Surprise event this coming Sunday in downtown Victoria. Local musicians will be playing next to the Johnston Street Bridge on the David Foster Pathway from 2-3 pm. Come on down and enjoy some live tunes with us.
Awesome concept. LOVE it!
