Collaborative Consultant in Discovery & Transformation
Victoria, BC
“Hello, my name is Christiane. My family and I recently moved to Victoria BC, the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking people, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. I recently established my own consulting business and am happy to be part of the Rethink Urban consulting collaborative. Prior to being in Victoria I lived for 30 years in Ontario, almost 26 of which I spent as the Executive Director in the municipal sector responsible for crime prevention through social and community development. My passion for upstream approaches to the prevention of human harm comes from many years of working with disadvantaged populations such as people living in poverty, teen parents, persons with mental health and addiction issues, persons with disabilities, victims of crime and those who come in conflict with the law. I was engaged in this work in the direct services sector in four different countries: Canada, New Zealand, England, and Germany (which is where I was born). These far apart settings had way more similarities than differences when it came to marginalized experiences and system failures, and that experience has led me to believe in the power of citizen driven and collaborative solutions when it comes to creating sustainable change. I am always humbled when I get asked to support communities, community organization or local governments. Every person and every community have a story and I look forward to hearing them. My background is in community psychology the poorer cousin of clinical psychology probably because community psychologists tend to challenge the status quo and have a dislike for the notion of “experts”. My spare time tends to be spent in nature, hiking, taking photographs, staring with awe at the ocean, often with my Golden Doodle Zoë who has become my teacher in all things mindfulness and how to have fun”.
