Mike Russell is an award-winning communicator with over 13-years of experience in crisis communications, strategy building, storytelling, and direct community empowerment. He brings significant experience in community mobilization and has garnered a reputation as a careful listener and persuasive storyteller.
With over 14-years of policing experience in Edmonton and Victoria, Mike brings a well-developed skillset that allows him to bridge the divide between various, and often competing, groups and priorities.
Mike is a storyteller in the land of storytellers and is honoured to work and live on the traditional and unceded territories of the Hul’q’umi’num’ speaking peoples. As the Director of Communications for the Cowichan Valley School District, Mike is committed to telling the stories of our xe’xe’smun’eem, our sacred children. These stories recognize the truth and are based in honour and respect.
Mike is a husband and father of five, cyclist, aspiring banjo and guitar player, and amateur photographer.
