Street pianos add more than sound to our cities’ streetscapes. They become real catalysts for spontaneous, positive, social interaction.
Inspired by the initiatives of Luke Jerram in cities across the world, our Steve Woolrich bought and donated a piano to downtown Red Deer (AB, Canada). That has been followed by street piano initiatives in Cochrane, AB, and Calgary.
Here’s a video from Shaw Community TV on the summer 2012 re-launch of the Red Deer piano. The presence of the piano has played a role not only in many tunes and conversations but in the summer-long conversion of a section of a prominent downtown street into a patio plaza.
