Rethink Urban is proud to be working with the Anglican Church of St. John the Divine for a six-month Full Spectrum Community Safety Practitioner in Residence initiative. This initiative comes after years of parish and community concern about social issues near the church and in the neighbourhood. The church specifically reached out to Rethink Urban as their focus is to be a driving part of the co-created community solutions that come as a result of this residency.
The Full Spectrum Community Safety and Well-Being program brings together multiple facets of the community to work through the four pillars of the program; discovery, well-being, creativity, and transformation. This program relies heavily on the input of the community to co- created solutions to issues that matter to all.
Adding the residency to this program gives St. John the Divine, and the surrounding community, dedicated community safety and well-being practitioners who are engaged with the community as their sole focus.
“This six-month residency gives our associates at Rethink Urban a chance to live in community as newcomers, taking stock of all of the great community attributes with fresh eyes,” said Steve Woolrich, Principal of Rethink Urban. “We then bring those fresh perspectives back to the community to help to build the foundation of a co-created and culturally appropriate solutions to address these complex community concerns. Our associates are like great chefs, searching for the fantastic ingredients within the community, and coming together with everyone to create a warm and welcoming meal.”
“We have been working towards making our community a place which is welcoming and inclusive, safe for all who want to find a haven and a sanctuary – both within our walls and in the surroundings,” said The Venerable Alastair Singh-McCollum, Archdeacon, Anglican Church of St. John the Divine. “We are confident that the Full Spectrum residency with Rethink Urban will ignite conversations in our community that will directly lead us to realize our goal.”
Full Spectrum is a powerful fusion of proven best practices that make the connection between safety, design, planning, and health to address complex community concerns and work towards creating the places we all love.
Rethink Urban is a team of dedicated and qualified consultants who help neighbourhoods improve safety, and well-being through well-researched and collaborative means so they can create communities that thrive.
The six-month residency at St. John the Divine began in March and will continue until August, 2021.
